Porsche Taycan Turbo S test drive

The first thing that began to be discussed in the world after the presentation of the Porsche electric car is its willingness to fight for leadership with another famous electric car called Tesla Model S. The main killer of Model S almost immediately came to our test and we thoroughly explored the strengths and weaknesses Taycan models. In today's review, we're trying to answer the question - did Porsche manage to outperform its Tesla competitor?

After the financial success of the American icon, German carmakers also began to develop their own electric trucks for the rich. Currently, there is an increasing demand for electric trucks in all markets, so in the next few years we will see cars with electric motors from all automakers. Taycan is based on a brand new platform that will soon become the basis for other VW electric vehicles, including the Audi e-tron GT. Porsche insists on the sporting component of the newcomer, because unlike the competitors that are built on gasoline platforms, Taycan is purely electric and more adapted to drive. Taycan's speed on straight stretches of road can not fail to impress, it is more powerful than the 911 coupe, and has a lower center of gravity, which is guided by a small map.

Unlike other electric cars, the new Porsche Taycan received a 2-speed automatic gearbox. At the first speed, the car accelerates as fast as possible, and the second is needed for more efficient use of energy and torque at high speeds. Probably the test Taycan Turbo S is the most powerful in the Porsche range, with 751 hp. and 1050 Nm of torque allow it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in just 2.8 seconds. Electric vehicles have the same system settings as Porsche gasoline models. In Sport + Sport mode, Taycan reacts very sharply to the accelerator pedal, and the steering and stiffer suspension are sharper.

The Porsche Taycan has an energy regeneration system in place to store brake energy and convert it to active energy when you press the gas pedal. Mainly it operates in urban traffic with constant use of the braking system. As an accessory, the car has a special sound exhaust system called Porsche Electric Sport Sound, which simulates the exhaust of a 6-cylinder gasoline engine. In the middle of the Taycan it is very quiet and comfortable, which is not surprising for an electric car, but it also applies to the servo sounds in the cabin, which retains premium gloss and exquisite architecture. The car has two luggage compartments - 81 and 366 liters. The first one can fit a cable to charge the car, and the second is used for the belongings of the driver and his passengers.

Porsche is very proud of its batteries and fast charging capability. On the base Taycan the battery has a larger capacity and can provide a power reserve of up to 450 km, and in the top Taycan Turbo S only 400 km. During the tests, we tested fast charging at IONITY, which has 147 stations across Europe. In 20 minutes of charging, the battery was able to accumulate 80% of the charge, which is simply a great indicator for serial electric vehicles.

During the tests, the Porsche Taycan Turbo S turned out to be quite rigid, but this can be explained by the sporty suspension settings and 21-inch wheels with low-profile tires. The situation is saved by a pneumatic suspension, which is almost impossible to break through.

The new Taycan focuses on the vision of the Porsche team for the future automotive industry. These are the thoughts that came to us when we got to the salon newbie. The era of analog devices is over, with a digital dashboard with great graphics and an interface in front of the driver. There are four screens in the salon, one of which duplicates the central one. This screen alone does not make the front seat of the Taycan sad. In fact, this looks rather ridiculous and not appropriate, since the minimalistic layout of the central panel suffers from such a decision.

In all other things, the test Taycan Turbo S makes a good impression. The interior of the supercar is very carefully and qualitatively done, and there are no issues with the decoration. Also striking is the list of basic equipment that includes Matrix LED lights, dual zone Porsche Communication Management (PCM) with online navigation and ceramic brakes. The question is only the cost of the top Taycan! In Europe, dealers are asking for 160,000 pounds for the Turbo S modification, which is twice the Tesla Model S.
