Test Drive Mercedes GLE

The new generation of Mercedes GLE came to the European market several months ago and immediately received many good reviews from both experts and regular customers of the German brand. We also could not pass the GLE and tested the crossover under normal operating conditions. The crossover turned out to be quite balanced and endowed with all the modern features that Mercedes has at its disposal. Looking ahead, we are sure that the newcomer not only surpassed the predecessor a and is much better than the rivals.

Today, the new Mercedes GLE's competitors are such as the BMW X5, the Audi Q7 and the Porsche Cayenne. But in addition to the recognized leaders in the segment of full-size premium crossover, there are also less prominent Volvo XC90s, Land Rover Discovery and Tesla Model X. At the European market, the newcomer is offered with a basic 2-liter diesel engine of 240 hp This version has the GLE 300 d. Even 4-cylinder cars will receive an automatic gearbox and can accelerate to the first hundred in less than 9 seconds. The manufacturer paid much attention to voice commands, betting on the future development of the information and entertainment system.

Add attractive new crossover special package options, such as the Tech package, which includes special software for smartphones, gesture management and maximum-sized screens. The rivals can also surprise their customers with new features, but it's the Mercedes that successfully combines luxury with functionality. Having looked at the second row of seats, we saw plenty of space for three adult passengers. The space on the rear sofa is one of the largest in the classroom.

And a few more words about the luggage compartment - it's just huge! The boot lid is about 630 liters. Of course, the rear row of seats is composed and the useful volume increases more than twice.

On the road, GLE has proved to be the most comfortable and convenient vehicle. Due to the overall dimensions and long wheelbase, the crossover smoothly overcomes all the inequalities. The steering and the braking system work very smoothly and correctly, which gives pleasure to every kilometer of the way. High-quality noise protection also adds a sense of security and comfort to a representative car.

During the test, we were able to test the basic 2-liter turbodiesel, which has an asset of 500 Nm of torque. This proved to be sufficient for a regular drive within the city, but no more. When you need to quickly accelerate or drive over long distances, you need a more powerful motor. It was nice to know the cost of basic crossover in our market. As expected, the novice has not risen in price, but still the chip and cost of options can erase all your dreams of the new Mercedes GLE.

After the test, we decided to summarize the results and compare GLE with competitors. It happened without a surprise and Mercedes GLE surely bypassed all their colleagues. Unfortunately, the outdated Audi Q7 has taken its fourth place, although at the time of its appearance on the market it was the leader of the segment. Porsche Cayenne and BMW X5 took second and third place respectively. Given that the base of the new Mercedes GLE costs about 55 thousand euros, this is quite a good offer on the market, but it should be noted that the price for actually equipped cars with powerful engines ranging from 80 to 100 thousand euros ...
