Test drive of the new BMW 3-Series

During the 43 years, many experts consider it the 3-Series standard of a sports sedan of the middle class. This title is likely to remain the next generation model under the G20 index, which we protest today and compare with the closest competitors in the face of Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4 and Jaguar XE. The first thing that can be noticed right away is the new appearance of the triple, which is not shocking, but on the contrary gives positive emotions and sends us to the predecessor in the body E46.

At the same time, the novice can boast not only the successful design of the exterior, but also the modern technologies that distinguish it against the background of outdated competitors. Thanks to the use of the CLAR brand platform, the 3-Series sedan is as thin as 55 kg. But the main thing that the manufacturer has managed to do is keep the ideal weight distribution between the front and back axes in a proportion of 50/50. In a compartment with new shock absorbers, the car responds noticeably more comfortable to the irregularities, while it remains manageable and dynamic. Of course, on the 18-inch alloy wheels of the M-Sport, the sedan feels a bit stiffer, but on a good asphalt pleasure from riding is not lost. During the test drive, the journalists demonstrated the BMW 3-Series with a package of M-performance, which very successfully emphasizes the sporty appearance of the sedan.

On the road, the new generation of BMW 3-Series brings a sense of drive and comfort. Bavaria has spent a lot of effort in adjusting the chassis and running qualities of the third series, as it is known that this model is the main brand of the brand in its native market. The reputation of the 3-Series is preserved and, at some points, it seems like a perfect D-class sedan. And yet, the competition in this segment does not give rest on the laurels, and besides the German manufacturers, the British aristocrat recently joined the struggle, which sensationally burst into the middle class several years ago.

Under the hood of a test car with an index of 320d, a 2-liter turbodiesel with a capacity of 190 hp was installed. and 400 Nm of torque. Immediately note the very exquisite work of this unit, which works very balanced and almost does not reveal its nature. The high torque and fast operation of the 8-speed automatic makes the sedan accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in just 6.8 seconds. In this case, the average fuel consumption does not exceed 5 liters per 100 km of run.

We also had to try the 2-liter gasoline variant of the three, which develops 250 hp power and features a pleasant overclocking dynamics. Unfortunately, the petrol modification, unlike diesel, is not offered with a full drive, here is just a rear-wheel drive and an automatic machine. It is possible to manually switch the gears manually using the petals located behind the steering wheel.

In the BMW 3-Series 2019, the model year is very comfortable and spacious, enough space for both the front passenger and rear. The sedan received a fairly large luggage compartment with a capacity of 480 liters.

By the quality level of finishing materials, the new triple also breaks ahead and wins the closest rivals. The 3-Series is equipped with the new generation of information and entertainment system iDrive 7.0 which includes a virtual cockpit and a central monitor on a torpedo. The BMW Live Cockpit Professional has not received very high marks, all because of modest graphics and obscure interface design, however, a central monitor with a size of 10.25 inches rescues the situation and shows us the top of the modern automotive screen. The main chip of the new trio was the voice control system, which is ahead of similar systems of competitors. The front console architecture provides excellent ergonomics from the driver's seat and this is another plus Bavarian sedan.

As an additional equipment for the three can order a digital key to open the door, which runs on the basis of a regular smartphone. The list of standard sedan equipment is quite extensive and includes the basic safety and comfort features, and customers will receive cruise control, leather saun, LED lights, satellite navigation, seat heater and parktronic for an additional fee. The front of the BMW 3-Series can have a different look and it depends on the chosen version, but as our subjective view is most definitely the car looks in the M-package.

As you can see, the new BMW 3-Series gains the most points and ranks first in our compact premium sedan rating. Bavarets successfully performed in all disciplines, so naturally received the highest marks. In the second place a sedan from Audi, followed by Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar. On the European market, you can already order 3-Series at a price of 35 thousand euros for a diesel sedan in the basic performance, it is slightly more expensive than other models, but Bavarets is equipped with slightly better than competitors. Without a doubt, the new three will be successful in Europe, where the previous sports achievements of the compact sedan 3-Series ...
