The first test of the new Lexus UX

The Japanese company Lexus is known not only due to the promotion of hybrid power plants under the hoods of its cars and the release of luxury SUVs that have long attracted the attention of the automotive community around the world. One of the first premium crossover on the market in the distant 1998 was the mid-size SUV at the name of RX. Today, for the first time, we will test a new compact Lexus UX on the road and compare it with German classmates.

On the street 2018th year, therefore, since the first Lexus crossover was released, it has been 20 years since. The development of the segment of SUVs and the popularity of SUVs have led to the emergence of compact and compact crossover. Following the NX, which was successful in the European market, the Japanese decided to release an even smaller model for the UX. The main competitors for a newcomer are car market experts called Mercedes GLA, BMW X1 and Audi Q3. Thanks to the base version of the Lexus UX, which costs from 30 thousand euros, the Japanese automaker was able to lower the price bar and compel competitors to revise the pricing policy in the direction of lowering the cost of their models. In spite of the democratic price of the new Lexus UX, this crossover is in no way inferior to the older models of the brand. Compact UX combines sports features and bonus equipment.

Lexus UX is built on the adapted platform Toyota TNGA, which for the UX model is called GA-C and has more bonus features. Thanks to the individual setting of the steering rails, engineers have been able to reduce vibrations and achieve the required acuity of control. The compact UX demonstrates an excellent level of grip with the surface of the road, and delights in the balance between queens and sports. Significant contribution to such behavior was undoubtedly made by the adaptive suspension, borrowed from the flagship coupe LC. At the same time, it is unknown how to behave UX on ordinary passive shock absorbers.

Under the hood of the test Lexus UX 250h F Sport is a modern 2-liter 4-cylinder power unit combined with an electric motor. The maximum power of the propulsion system is 176 hp which is transmitted through the variator to the front axle.

Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h lasts for 8.5 seconds. The maximum speed of the crossover is stated at 210 km / h. A pleasant surprise was the fuel consumption indicator, which showed an average consumption of 6 liters per 100 km of run. The main advantage of UX over competitors is the hybrid technology that allows you to reduce CO2 emissions to the air and ensure that the engine meets the Euro 6 emission standards.

The interior of the new Lexus UX has finally come close to the premium level and make sure you look at the materials and evaluate the quality of the panels inside the car. Among its relatives, the UX features simple and clear ergonomics that almost does not need to be addictive. The torpedo architecture is not distracting by unclear solutions and allows you to feel confident and free when driving a crossover. The central console has a touch screen multimedia system screen installed. As a base feature, multimedia has its own applications for managing music, phone, and other options, and frankly, it's not convenient. It's possible that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will eventually come up on this model. The seats in the front seats are enough for a comfortable landing and comfortable ride.

In the back seat space is also enough, so the Lexus UX can be a purely family car. And he has a spacious buggy compartment and many pockets on the salon for storing small things.

The usual practice of comparing competitors ended in an unexpected result - the Lexus UX confidently took second place, giving way to the leadership of the new Audi Q3, which will be extremely difficult to surpass. Approximate cost of our test Lexus UX 250h F Sport is 40 thousand euros, which is too much for a compact crossover.
